Controlled Substance Ordering System (CSOS), allows for secure electronic transmission of controlled substance orders without the supporting paper DEA 222 form. CSOS requires that each individual purchaser enroll with DEA to acquire a CSOS Digital Signing Certificate.
Advantages of Electronic Controlled Substance Ordering:
- Reduce costs, increase security and comply with DEA regulations
- Complete order accuracy – minimize manual form errors
- Saves time – reducing patient wait times for medication
- Order confirmations provided in seconds - orders received by Covetrus and shipped the same day
- Simplify record keeping- a means to better track CII and CIIN orders
How Does it Work?
CSOS is the DEA’s response to the public need of ordering which allows customers to efficiently place Controlled Substance CII and CIIN orders electronically. Covetrus’s application, Express 222, is a secure system fully compliant with DEA regulations. It is user friendly and meets the needs of the occasional buyer as well as the frequent multiple-order buyer.
Getting Started
If you have your DEA digital
Certificate,
please send an email to [email protected] and include the following information:
-
Contact person
-
DEA registration number
- Covetrus account number
-
Best phone number and time to call if we need to reach you
-
Best email address to receive future communications regarding your orders
If you do NOT have your DEA digital certificate, first, obtain a Digital Signing Certificate (DSC). A DSC can be obtained by enrolling in the CSOS program through the DEA website http://www.deaecom.gov/applycert.html. Every individual who wishes to sign electronic orders for controlled substances must enroll with DEA to acquire his or her own personal Digital Certificate.
After the enrollment process is complete, in about six weeks the DEA will send both an email and a postal mail. These two items (access code and password) must be married up in order for you to retrieve your Digital Certificate from the DEA website. Detailed instructions will explain how to retrieve the file and install the certificate in your Internet Explorer browser.
Should you need assistance with installing your digital certificate, call (254) 933-4452; choose option 2 for support.
