Lyme Disease & Heartworm Support

Lyme disease can have serious health consequences for dogs. Ticks are the disease carrier, and in particular ticks found in the Northeast and Upper Midwest. Unfortunately, due to changing weather patterns, the geographic range of these ticks is expanding, and with them the incidence of Lyme disease. Clinical signs can include lameness or joint stiffness, fever, lethargy, and appetite loss. Vaccination against Lyme should be considered in all endemic areas on the CAPC prevalence map, all fringe areas, and for any dog with an expectation to travel to any of these areas.

"Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can be passed through wet ground and wet grass," said Siouxland Animal Hospital's veterinarian, Jacey Johnson.
