New Techniques, New Teaching Methods
Veterinarian David Mears had a problem: The number of dogs suffering from CCL rupture that were brought into his clinic in Shiloh, Illinois, continued to increase, but he had few treatment options, other than sending them to St. Louis, 45 minutes away. So, when he received an email about Covetrus TTA Rapid Wet Lab, he registered for the course in nearby Ohio.
"I want to offer this treatment to my clients. This is the only TTA course that I know of," he said. Location, he added, definitely played a part in his choice, because Ohio is fairly close.
Mears hopped a plane to Columbus, Ohio, and traveled to Covetrus Dublin headquarters for the class.
"The class was well-organized. The instructors were ready to go. They had food for us."
He was impressed by the frontline experience of instructors Justin Harper and Phil Zeltzman, the take-home notes and materials, the class size of 12, and the opportunity for one-on-one hands-on time with the instructors.
"The instructors have real-world experience, not just in a university setting. That's important to me. They've dealt with complications and problems."
Mears was able to perform the procedure on a model and a cadaver leg. In addition to basic information, the instructors discussed potential complications and how to treat them. Because of the small class size, he was able to question the instructors and practice his technique without waiting.
The instruction was invaluable to him in his companion animal practice.
"The hands-on portion was excellent. Overall, the class was phenomenal. It's the best CE class I've been to in years. This class left me confident I could perform the procedure."
Although Mears has enrolled in webinars and read educational material from Covetrus, he had never attended a wet lab before.
"Covetrus is the only one that I know that does this course. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in surgery and doing that procedure."
Covetrus played a critical role in enhancing Mears's ability to improve his practice and help his patients. At Covetrus, that's what we do.
