National Vet Tech Week
Have you hugged your vet tech today? Vet techs are a key component in keeping our pets happy and healthy!
The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) established National Veterinary Technician Week October 14-20. This year’s theme focuses on “Veterinary Nursing in Action.” The annual event recognizes veterinary nurses and technicians for their contributions in pet healthcare, as well as veterinarians, assistants, practice managers and others involved in pet care.
In honor of National Veterinary Technician Week, here are some ways to celebrate the professionals who support the work of veterinarians to keep clients’ pets healthy and happy.
Host an open house at your clinic. Invite clients and partner with local rescue groups to have adoptable animals at the event. Create a clinic passport with stops at various stations around the practice, such as a surgical suite, lab and exam room. Most importantly, make sure to highlight your staff members, introduce them to the public and thank them for the work they do each day. Post photos on your social media channels.
Feature your veterinary staff on your social media channels and website. Highlight the roles and the importance of veterinary techs and veterinary assistants. Take it a step further by creating poster boards in your waiting room. Get your clients involved by asking them to post notes thanking staff for caring for their pets, or post photographs of staff with your clients’ pets.
Show thanks to your staff during the week by bringing in breakfast or lunch each day. As an added treat, consider hiring someone to give chair massages one day during the company lunch hour.
Give staff gifts such as a tote bag, surgical cap, coffee mug, water bottle or T-shirt promoting the importance of vet techs.
Make a donation to a local shelter or rescue group that the veterinary tech or assistant is passionate about. Donations don’t have to be monetary. Donating time or supplies can be just as valuable.
Send a handwritten note or signed card to the staff members.
Covetrus values the contributions of veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants. For the supplies and medications you need for your practice, contact your Covetrus representative at 855.724.3461.
